Dear Google,
First of all, I would like to start off with letting you know that I love your search engine. I know it, I use it, and it’s a handy little tool when I need to find things on the internet. However, I don’t feel its okay for your ad sense advertisements to freeze my browser when visiting websites.

I started experiencing my browser freezing on me last night on my home laptop computer. I was visiting a website that was attempting to transfer through pagead2.googlesyndication.com. It happened again today at work causing another frozen browser from a different website trying to display pagead2.googlesyndication.com. Now I understand you make money off these advertisements, but when they lag and freeze browsers, you are both causing havoc for the company displaying the ad’s, as well as losing them valuable visitors.
Now, I know you are probably not trying to cause these problems, but before any updates that you may be doing to pagead2.googlesyndication.com, you may want to make sure that it doesn’t freeze browsers.
Sincerely,
JellyMeli

it is extremely annoying when im just trying to surf the web and this slows the load speed to at least 10-20% of what it should be. i shouldnt be having this problem w/ high speed internet!

same for me, this attempt of google to make more money, blocks millions of sites for hundred thousands if not millions of users.

Yes…it is only recently that with nearly every site I visit I see transferring data from pagead2.googlesyndication.com….this is getting really out of hand…..it is as though the internet has reverted back to dial up (before 56k!)

anyone know how to avoid/correct this? it has just started to plague me.

I get the same thing …
It is google “personalizing” your web experience.
I don’t mind to some degree, just don’t slow my game down!

Anyone who uses FireFox: get the AdBlockerPro program.
Add the pagead2.googlesyndication.com to the filter.
Ta da!

Is it really from google? It looks so bogus to be from google (weird placement of search, floating animated word with less relativity to each other).

I’ve tried different browsers and it appears Google ads are solid down today. I’m thinking of dumping them for something like adbrite.

It just hit me today too. It really sucks. Nothing will load. How does this just suddenly happen to a particular computer and not another? It is acting like spyware or something. I’m going to try the AdBlockerPro program.

Thanks to Mike for his suggestion… I’ve removed the site name from the whitelist on Firefox’s NoScript add-on and my speed is now back to normal.

Is there a way to avoid this on Internet Explorer?

Most of the time, this has something to do with spyware, adware or Google ad blockers installed on your system. They try to block this request, and that may make it go very slow, indeed.
I don’t think it’s Google’s fault, but they might optimize their code to allow faster blocking of their ads. I can’t imagine that they’ve done this on purpose..
On the other side spyware and anti-ads might also want to find another way to block it. I dunno, instead of giving no response, they could give a false response or so??

I have been having this problem with one web site, quote.com for about two weeks now where the browser locks up on pagehead2.googlesyndication.com.
Adding it to my add blocker doesn’t solve the problem.
This week the problem has expanded to other web sites that incorporate ads by googlesyndication.
If I knew of an official regulatory body that would intervene, I would complain to them. I believe that it is some deft attempt of google to block any attempts of users to block their syndicated advertisements.
grrrrrrrrrrr

I’m a novice, but this should work in IE6:
IE6:tools:Internet Options…:Content:Content Advisor:Settings:Approved Sites:Allow this Web site:http//pagead2.googlesyndication.com:never
I did it for ad.yieldmanager.com when I had a problem in Yahoo News and it helped. (I like the mouse over/hover feature that gives the first sentence summary without having to open the whole page).

I am also having problems with this site and I find it extremely annoying. I understand that this is buisness as usual for your company.
However, I find it annoying and far from necessary. First and foremost I do not appreciate ANY ADVERTISEMENTS on my computer. If I want to check out a product I will. I do not want advertisements of any kind slammed in my face while I am attempting to use my computer. What a waste of time for google and all companies that do this. I should have more control over what comes to my computer that this. Computers have become personal products much like a womans purse and I also would not appreciate someone dumping things in my purse.
I do like google as a search engine and I wouldn’t mind some advertisements but this is such a pain.

I wonder if part of the problem with browser-hang is the fact that firefox automatically prefetches some links. I’ve had that turned off since I first heard of it (just Google: firefox prefetch disable to see how). I do not want to waste effort loading info from somewhere I don’t want to go, especially from ads!
I also must express my love for the firewall I use: Agnitum Outpost Pro. It has an Ad blocker that works wonders — it’s so awesome, that I have to brace myself if I have to surf from another computer!
